An early Sunday morning fire at Roselin Missionary Baptist Church totally destroyed the church building at 2853 The Glades near Millerville in Clay County. Firefighters from Millerville and Tri-County Volunteer Fire Departments were unable to save the building or contents as the building was well involved in fire when discovered at 3:50 AM.

An investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshals Office revealed the fire originated in the attic of the building. A Major Incident Response Team from the Fire Marshals Office traced the cause of the fire to the building’s electrical system.

On Saturday afternoon church members gathered at the church for choir practice during which time they experienced problems with the electrical system. Smoke was observed at one point, as was an odor of burning rubber, however, no fire was ever seen.

The fire was discovered by a passing motorist who was returning home from work.
