One Webb resident died Wednesday afternoon when fire destroyed his home at 1270 Crawford Road.
Lemmie Gene Turvin, age 68, died during the fire which occurred around 2:00 PM. Mr. Turvin had been cooking, but left the food unattended and fell asleep. His sister discovered the burned food around noon and turned the eyes off. While cutting grass around 2:00 PM, Mr. Turvin’s sister saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the Turvin home.
An investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office and local authorities revealed pork chops had been left cooking inside the stove, after the food on top of the stove was removed.
