At 9:36 this morning the Vinemont Providence Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the K–12 Vinemont High School located on High School Road. Responding firefighters were able to quickly control a small fire in an electrical/mechanical room located adjacent to the school gymnasium.

At the time of the fire, the basketball team was practicing and discovered the fire when lights in the gymnasium went out. There were no injuries.

The State Fire Marshals Office determined the cause of the fire to be electrical. A short occurred when a three-phase line came in contact with metallic conduit. Wood shelves immediately adjacent to an electrical panel ignited. No structural damage was reported.
