Two Killed; Nine Injured in Fire

Two people were killed and nine injured during a weather related fire in Marion County this morning. The cause of the fire is weather related.

Two children ages 9 and 15 were killed in the mobile home fire which occurred at 3:03 this morning at 990 Marion County Road 73 near Hamilton. Two adults and 3 children, also occupants of the home, were also injured trying to escape. One child has been flown to a burn center in Birmingham. Some injuries are believed to be possibly life threatening.

A neighbor who assisted in getting people from the home and 2 firefighters also sustained injuries.

Local investigators and investigators from the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office have traced the cause of the fire to a severe lightning storm that passed through the area approximate 20 minutes prior to the fire being reported.
