Steven McBride age 42, died Monday night July 22nd following an 11:36 PM fire at his home. The fire, at 216 Chandler Drive, originated in a bedroom. The victim was found in the hallway of the single family dwelling. He died while being taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire and death are under investigation by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office. Although smoke detectors were present in the home at the time of the fire, one was disconnected from the electrical system and the second, battery powered, did not sound an alarm.
An autopsy is scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
