A twelve year old girl died this morning during a fire at her residence at 2521 Lancelot Drive in Forestdale. The fire was reported at 5:56 AM and Forestdale Fire Department units arrived at the scene at 6:02 AM.
Alexis M. Spencer died while her older brother was able to escape the fire which resulted from the eye of an electric stove being left on and unattended with a pot on the eye. A detection system was present at the home; however, the system was not active at the time of the fire.
Investigators with the Forestdale Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office are awaiting a report from the Jefferson County Medical Examiner regarding the cause of death.
