One subject is currently being held in the Blount County Jail following the investigation of a burglary and fire at the Grace Community Church at Remlap.
Larry Jerome Updike, 35 year-old Remlap resident, is currently charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, but faces additional charges of burglary third degree, arson second degree and receiving stolen property.
A passerby discovered the fire, at 599 Spunky Hollow Road, and reported it to Blount County 911 at 6:49 A.M. today. Three area volunteer fire departments responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office are continuing the joint investigation of the fire and other crimes.
