Two people died in a fire discovered at 7:24 A.M. Thursday September 4th. At the time of discovery, the fire had burned itself out. At the present time the victims are tentatively identified as David Ross Jones, age 45, and Dixie McDaniel Jones, age 46, of 186 Dana Road Oneonta.
Investigators with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office say there were no utilities to the fourteen by sixty foot mobile home that burned. The occupants were using candles and kerosene lamps for light. No smoke detectors were present in the home.
The cause and circumstances of the fire and deaths remain under investigation and autopsies, by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, have been scheduled for both victims.
