Reyn Norman, an attorney with the Alabama Department of Insurance for the past 14 years, has been named the department’s General Counsel, Commissioner Walter A. Bell announced today.

“Reyn Norman is an outstanding lawyer who is well equipped to face the challenges of this position,” Commissioner Bell said. “He has been a trusted source of valuable advice to all of us at the department, to legislators, to those in the industry and, most of all, to Alabama consumers.”

Norman, a native of Fort Deposit and a 1979 graduate of Samford University, is a 1982 graduate of Cumberland School of Law.  He spent eight years in private practice in Lowndes County prior to joining the Alabama Department of Insurance.

“I appreciate the opportunity Commissioner Bell has afforded me,” Norman said. “It will continue to be our goal to see that the interests of Alabama insurance consumers are protected through the fair regulation of the business of insurance.”

Norman has been the Department’s legislative liaison since 1995. He has been the Department’s lead attorney on issues related to producer licensing, HIPAA, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
